Sound Logic supports first field worker
October 2002

War Child Australia's first field worker, Joanna Francis, leaves for Herat, Afghanistan early next month, thanks largely to Melbourne-based software consultancy Sound Logic.

Sound Logic has provided substantial financial support to War Child Australia, enabling it to meet the costs of Joanna's posting. Joanna's role of project support worker in the Shaidayee refugee camp outside Herat will involve a variety of activities including administration, logistics, legal and protection rights issues, and implementation of programs such as a kindergarten catering for 250 children, an agricultural project for women and a puppet play to teach children land mine awareness.

"Living in Australia, and working in the IT industry, it's all too easy to lose perspective on the needs of people, particularly children, in war-ravaged countries," says Sound Logic principal Dave Sanders. "We look forward to hearing first hand from Joanna how we're helping with the redevelopment in Afghanistan."

President of War Child Australia, author Nick Earls is grateful to Sound Logic. "Although War Child was established in 1993, the Australian chapter was only registered in July this year. Without this support from Sound Logic, we may have missed this fantastic opportunity to send our first aid worker to a field project."
