Continuing its association with War Child Australia, Melbourne-based
software consultancy Sound Logic has contributed funds for
text and story books for eight childcare centres and orphanages
in Afghanistan.
Last year, Sound Logic provided funds and equipment to help
War Child Australia’s first field worker, Joanna Francis,
relocate to Afghanistan. Sound Logic principal Dave Sanders
takes an active interest in the projects Joanna is undertaking,
and offered financial support for a project to provide books
for orphans. “It’s easy to take access to books
and educational tools for granted,” says Dave, “but
talking with Joanna reveals just how little these kids have.
I think it’s also important to continue to fund redevelopment
in Afghanistan now, with so many aid dollars being directed
to Iraq.”
Most centres have hardly any resources at all, according to
Joanna, who undertook surveys to determine what books would
be most useful. Using the funds from Sound Logic, Joanna and
other War Child workers will purchase books locally and distribute
them to orphanages in Herat and provincial Afghanistan.
War Child Australia’s Chair Nick Earls values the ongoing
relationship with Sound Logic. “Having Sound Logic on
board as a sponsor, and having Joanna in Afghanistan, demonstrates
how quickly even a small organization can make a difference,”
he says. “War Child Australia was only registered in
July last year, and already we’re making a significant
contribution to War Child’s world-wide work.”
