Australian Taxation Office grants War Child Australia DGR status
22 February 2006
International aid agency War Child today announced it has joined the ranks of other
major Australian charities with its War Child Australia Relief Fund being endorsed by the
Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a deductible gift recipient (DGR).
A DGR is a charity or other organisation that is approved by the Australian Taxation Office
as entitled to receive tax deductible donations.
From 1 February 2006, all donors who give more than $2 to the War Child
Australia Relief Fund can claim the amount of that gift as an income tax deduction.
Author Nick Earls, Chair of War Child Australia, said the DGR status heralded a
new frontier for the charity within Australia.
“Since being established in Australia in 2002, War Child has attracted huge financial
support from businesses and individuals,” said Nick.
“We are delighted to now be able to offer all our donors the opportunity to reduce their
taxes for any donations they make.
“As War Child continues to strengthen its base in Australia with fundraising projects such
as the Kids' Night In and Girls' Night In anthologies with stories from best-selling authors, Bake for
War Child and lots more, DGR status means we can further expand our
international aid efforts.”
War Child Australia will issue receipts for all deductible donations that can then be
used to claim deductions as part of annual income tax reporting.
