International fashion label Funkulo partners with War Child

Sydney-based fashion label Funkulo has partnered with War Child to release a ‘peace tshirt’. The tshirt, part of Funkulo’s latest collection, is made from organic fair trade cotton, and is available in a variety of colours.
Profits from sales of the peace tshirts, around $2 per garment, are donated to War Child Australia to help fund its programmes around the world. War Child works with marginalised children living in conflict and post-conflict zones: those formerly associated with the armed forces, living on the streets, or imprisoned.
Sam Elsom, the designer behind the Funkulo label, was looking for a humanitarian organisation to partner with Funkulo. War Child appealed, not only because of its projects, but also because such a high percentage of donated funds goes directly to field work. Since its inception in 2002, War Child Australia has directed more than 99% of donated funds directly to field projects in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“In partnering with War Child, I really felt that we could make a difference in the world. By promoting peace, and helping children affected by war, Funkulo becomes far more than just a fashion label,” says Elsom.
“Funkulo’s focus on organic and fair trade materials was important to us,” says Clare Mirabello, Chair of War Child Australia. “We are delighted to offer such a simple and appealing way for people to contribute to our work.”
Funkulo will release a peace tshirt as part of every collection, with profits from sales donated to War Child Australia.
The first peace tshirts will be in stores from February 25. Consumers can identify the tshirts by their labels, which introduce War Child and its work.
