Emergency supplies to an orphanage in Bethlehem

Assessment leads to emergency funding

Following an initial assessment by War Child, emergency funding was provided to the Holy Family Children’s home and maternity hospital in Bethlehem. The home is run by the Daughters of Charity from St Vincents. The nuns have been present in the region for 120 years and care for approximately 50 permanent residents and 60 external children who attend the home daily, with the help of Palestinian staff and volunteers. The centre works closely with a social welfare office through which the children are placed.

Many of the children living at the home are abandoned, sometimes left only hours after birth on a pavement, under a vehicle, even in rubbish bins. Others have lost their parents as a result of the conflict. War Child is providing funding for a year, helping the home to remain fully operational with continued supplies of food and medical aid for the children.
