Emergency rations helped children until stable humanitarian assistance arrived

Emergency nutritional packs

Fighting between government forces and Muslim insurgents in Mindanao raged in February 2004 in the worst rebel flare-up in three years. The death toll reached over 200 and 41, 000 people were reported to have fled their homes due to the fighting.

In response to the internal conflict, War Child, through a local partner, Lanao Foundation, provided emergency nutritional packs consisting of rice, dried fish, noodles, powdered milk and mongo (a vegetable) to 788 displaced children.

The children had fled to the mountains of Linamon, Kauswagan and Bacolod. The rations lasted for two weeks and will cover an interim period before stable humanitarian assistance arrived.
