2004 calendar of events
Throughout 2004, many and varied events raised awareness
of War Child's work, and raised money to support War Child
field projects.
A wonderful collaborative fundraiser for War Child and the
Refugee Action Collective (RAC) was recently held at the Blue
Pineapple Cafe in Brisbane's Red Hill. The evening,
which attracted close to 70 guests, saw Blue Pineapple owner
anthropologist Dr Annie Holden introduce guest speakers Nicole
Randall from RAC and Nick Earls, Chair of War Child Australia.
The highlight of the evening was the auctioning of a painting
by renowned artist Charles Gordon, the proceeds of which were
donated to War Child. The spirited bidding provided great
entertainment, as did the efforts of 'humpin and bumpin' auctioneers
Martin Millard of Harcourts Alderley and Peter Darcy of PRD
Realty Paddington. The success of the evening has prompted
Dr Holden to make it an annual event.
Another successful fundraiser was a Brisbane garden party
organised by Bea Duffield. Guests were entertained by MC Gavin
Blakey OAM, and guest speakers Nick Earls (author and Chair
of War Child Australia) and Michael Groom OAM (who has conquered
Mt Everest — twice!). A Beatle-mania auction raised
additional funds for War Child.
